About this design

A leucistic axolotl sits for the world's most famous portrait: hands folded on a stone ledge, a dark shawl over a green dress, that knowing smile, and a hazy valley of lakes, a bridge and mountains behind.

The axolotl's own wide smile stands in for the famous one, and the old-master haze is redrawn with cottagecore's soft ink line, stipple texture, earthy palette and paper grain.

The real animal: In the wild, axolotls survive only in the lake and canal system of Xochimilco near Mexico City, and they are assessed as critically endangered. (Source: Wikipedia)

About this jigsaw puzzle

The picture is printed and laminated on sturdy chipboard, with a glossy finish, and a reference print of the whole picture comes in the box.

It arrives in a white paper box with the picture printed on a label on the lid. The label also carries our print partner's small "Custom made" mark: there is no Bognook-branded box.

The art fills the puzzle edge to edge, so a thin strip at two of its edges is trimmed to the puzzle's shape.
