Spawn

Spawn is the mass of eggs an amphibian lays — frog spawn in clumps, toad spawn in strings, and many salamanders and newts attaching eggs singly to plants.

The shape can help identify the species. Finding spawn means successful breeding — which is exciting but comes with responsibility: raising tadpoles takes space, food and homes for the young, and wild spawn is best left where it is.
