Privacy & your data
Last updated: 14 October 2026
The short version: your animals and settings stay on your device, email is optional, and we never sell or share your information. Here's the honest detail — written the way we'd want it explained to us. 🐸
🔒 Your animals and settings stay on your device
Bognook remembers more for you than most care sites — and all of it lives right in your own web browser (using a feature called local storage), on this one device. There's no account and no server holding it. That includes:
- Your “My animals” roster — the animals you add and name, so every tool can prefill the right species (and each animal's tank size) for you.
- What the tools remember — your chosen species, your tank size, and whether you like temperatures in °C or °F, kept steady across the whole tool suite.
- Your logs — the cycling tracker's water readings and your feeder-culture notes, so your record is there when you come back to it.
- Your cozy preferences — which ambient sounds and music you like, and how loud, so the corner feels the way you left it.
Here's how we think about all of that:
- Kept on your device — no account and no server holding it, so your animals' details never leave your hands.
- Yours, and private — it's your record to keep, ready when you need it (including for your vet), not something we look over.
- Yours to remove anytime — remove an animal in the tool or clear your browser's site data, and it's gone.
Because it lives in one browser on one device, it won't follow you to another browser or phone — and clearing your browsing data will erase it. The whole point is simple: your animals' details, ready whenever you need them.
Email — only if you ask for it
If you choose to sign up for our email updates, we collect the email address you give us, so we can send the cozy amphibian care content you asked for. That's the only personal detail we ask for, and only when you opt in.
- Our email list is managed by Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, an EU company based in France), which stores your address and the page you signed up from (such as which species or kit), may record whether our emails are opened or clicked, and sends our emails on our behalf; we don't pass it to anyone else.
- Every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also reply to any of our emails (or write to hello@bognook.com) to be taken off the list — leave whenever you like, no hard feelings.
- We use it to send helpful care content — never to sell you out or hand your address to third parties.
Hosting & basic technical data
Bognook is a fast, static website served through Cloudflare. Like any website, its servers automatically process standard request information (such as your IP address and browser type) to deliver pages and keep the site secure. We don't use this to build a profile of you.
Cookies & tracking
On this website, Bognook does not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking, and we don't run third-party analytics that profile you. The only things stored on your device are the on-device settings described above — there for your convenience, not our surveillance.
What we never do
- We never sell your data.
- We never share it for third-party advertising.
- We don't require an account to read our guides or use our tools — access is never gated behind a login.
Your choices & your rights
You're in control: you can remove any saved animal or clear the on-device data at any time, and you can unsubscribe from our newsletters with one click (or reply to any of our emails and ask). Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold (in practice, if you've subscribed, that's your email address, the page you signed up from, and whether our emails were opened or clicked). To make a request, or to ask anything at all about your data, email hello@bognook.com and we'll help.
Children
Bognook is a general-audience amphibian-care site and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children; if you believe a child has sent us their details, contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes to this notice
If our practices change — for example if we ever add optional accounts that sync your animals across devices — we'll update this page and the “last updated” date above before that change goes live, and describe exactly what's different.
Latest change: our email provider is now Brevo (it replaced EmailOctopus).
