Bioactive
A bioactive vivarium is a living, self-cleaning setup where a "cleanup crew" of tiny invertebrates and live plants break down waste, so the enclosure largely maintains itself.

It layers drainage, a bioactive substrate, a cleanup crew (springtails and isopods) and live plants into a mini-ecosystem — beautiful and low-maintenance once cycled, and a great fit for dart frogs and tree frogs.
It is not a shortcut around good husbandry: temperatures, humidity and clean water still matter, and a sick animal belongs in a simple quarantine setup, not a bioactive one.
