Cleanup crew

Also called: CUC

The cleanup crew (CUC) is the team of tiny invertebrates — usually springtails and isopods — that live in a bioactive vivarium and eat mould, waste and dead plant matter.

They are the "janitors" that make a bioactive setup self-cleaning, and they also become occasional micro-snacks. A healthy cleanup crew is what keeps mould in check in a planted enclosure.
